Spring 2020: A Letter to Our Colleagues

April 07, 2020

HCA Healthcare CEO Sam Hazen thanks colleagues for their work in fighting COVID-19.

HCA Healthcare Colleagues,

In the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic affecting our country and our organization, you have stepped up to the challenge and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the care and improvement of human life. For this, I want to express my sincere gratitude.

Many of you on our hospital teams, as well as non-hospital teams, support teams, and corporate teams, continue to work around the clock to care for each other and our patients. COVID-19 is one of the greatest public health challenges we have faced, but it is a challenge we are fighting head on. As a leading provider in healthcare services, the work we do and the decisions we make are critical to your well-being, the well-being of our country, the well-being of our communities and—most importantly—the well-being of our patients.

Progressive Care Unit staff at HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland were led in prayer by assistant chief nursing officer Angel Romero, Jr., MSCIS, BSN, RN, as they prepared to receive their first COVID-19 positive patient. These colleagues worked tirelessly to equip themselves and the unit for the challenge before them and took this time to seek solace from above. In Voices from the Frontline, we share the remarkable actions you have taken to help those affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic. I hope these stories inspire you as much as they do me by seeing how HCA Healthcare colleagues throughout the enterprise give tirelessly of themselves to doing amazing work, even in difficult moments. I look forward to continuing our work together as we strive to improve more lives in more ways. We will get through this event together and emerge stronger as an organization and, more importantly, as an HCA Healthcare family.

Sincerely,

Sam Hazen, CEO, HCA Healthcare
